Each parafencer will be the captain of a team consisting of 3 fencers; two able-bodied and themselves. Observe as each fencer competes in 3 bouts while seated in a wheelchair for parafencing, or on a regular fencing strip for able-bodied participants. The first team to 45 points wins the tournament in this exciting competition. Our objective is to raise awareness of the Olympic/Paralympic sport of fencing, and encourage potential para athletes to try the sport. Many wheelchair fencers are able to walk and have full or partial use of limbs. Highly individualized adaptions are available to enjoy both recreational and competitive opportunities. All are welcome to explore fencing, able-bodied and para alike. —————————————————————————————————————————————– 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. FUNDRAISER GALA DINNER & PRESENTATION $125 per person ENJOY a cocktail hour with appetizers, beer, wine & soft drinks provided, and a no-host bar, followed by a delicious dinner catered by our regionally famous Luigi’s Restaurant and Delicatessen. The evening program will feature presentations by our Olympian parafencer and special guests, plus the exciting opportunity to fence against an Olympian, while seated in a wheelchair. This Gala Dinner is a fundraiser event for the needed equipment and resources to support a parafencing training program in Bakersfield. The Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation (KAFF) is a 501©3 non-profit organization, established in 2012, to provide the sport of fencing to youth and adults in our community. We currently serve over 100 members, offering after-school and evening fencing programs and charter school sports programs. We offer adaptive fencing lessons to clients of League of Dreams and other adaptive organizations. KAFF in partnership with Health Through Wholeness, has introduced wheelchair fencing to our community, with the intent to develop para-athletes who will eventually compete at national and international levels. Additionally, we plan to host tournaments with parafencing events to attract athletes from USA Fencing Region 4 to our area for training and competitive opportunities. We welcome partnership with individuals and organizations who would like to help bring this Paralympic sport opportunity to our community.
