Jul 20, 2015

Kern Community Foundation has earned a spot on one of the Community Foundation Top 100 Lists.

With more than 700 community foundations in the United States, Kern Community Foundation is 22nd on the list of “Most Active Grantmakers” by distribution rates. CF Insights, which compiles and distributes data and information on finances, operations and best practices for community foundations nationwide, released the information on July 16th.

Foundation President and CEO, Kristen Barnes said, “This list provides peer benchmarks to help community foundations showcase their value in terms other than simply gross assets. Kern Community Foundation not only ranks in the top quartile nationally, but second in California; surpassing  the San Diego Foundation (#75), Silicon Valley Community Foundation (#76) and the San Francisco Foundation (#91).”

In 2014, Kern Community Foundation awarded 468 grants totaling nearly $3 million to 209 nonprofit charitable organizations that serve the residents of Kern County. “We have long known that we live in one of the most generous communities in the nation, a fact that this list supports. It goes to show that the residents of Kern County have a great deal of heart and truly care about the place we call home,” Barnes said.

Kern Community Foundation is a vibrant nonprofit enterprise with the powerfully simple mission of growing community and growing philanthropy.  The Foundation is in business to serve as a charitable resource for local donors and corporations, and to generate capital that provides philanthropic solutions to help make Kern County a better place to live, to work and to visit. Since its establishment in 1999, the Foundation has grown to hold more than 100 charitable funds with assets of approximately $18 million, and has awarded more than $13.1 million to improve Kern County’s quality of life.
