Bakersfield Californian: Community Foundation presents giving card

For many of us, this is the time of year when we struggle to find just the right gift to say "thank you" or "happy holidays" to our valued customers, clients, employees, board members, volunteers, friends and relatives. It can be difficult to find something that can be appreciated by all, and that is the right fit for a variety of personalities, tastes and beliefs.
And let's face it; many of us just don't need another gadget, bottle of wine or fruit basket. We seem have so much, but still want to recognize those who matter to us most during this season of giving.
Kern Community Foundation is offering what just may be the perfect gift for your giving needs -- the Giving Card. It was designed to introduce charitable giving to everyone, in a way that is unique, meaningful and fun.
Much like a retail gift card, Giving Cards can be purchased in a variety of denominations and can be redeemed to benefit any 501(c)(3) public charity in the United States, including schools, churches and synagogues. Giving Cards can also be mailed to a nonprofit or dropped into a collection basket.
The person purchasing the card is eligible for a charitable tax deduction for the full amount of the order. The cards can be purchased online at kerndoundation.org, and will be processed within five business days. Cards may be purchased in denominations of $25, $50, $100 or $500.
There are different styles of cards available, depending upon the occasion you would like to celebrate. Cards may also be customized to include your company's logo. Each card may be redeemed up to 12 months after being issued.
Kern Community Foundation charges a small service fee to cover a portion of its costs in creating and processing Giving Cards, but not more than a traditional greeting card. Visit kernfoundation.org or call 616-2617.
This is an innovative way to encourage those who matter most to you to give back to the many nonprofit organizations that do so much for our communities.
